• Enjoy the natural wonders of the pristine island of Contoy, considered the most important nesting place for sea birds in all of the Mexican Caribbean. The island is very small, it is only 5 miles long and in places very narrow. The island is a sanctuary for more than 152 species of tropical seabirds such as frigates, brown pelicans, sea swallows and cormorants among others. Many other migrating species come to this Yucatan island to spend their winter months in the sanctuary of Contoy. 14 species of reptiles share the island with the many sea birds and roam the beaches and jungle. Due to the nutrients in the warm waters around the island, you can find an abundance of turtles,  lobsters, octopus, shrimp, sardines and each year large whale dolphins migrate too. Over 234 species of fish have been counted! Before arriving in Contoy, visitors can stop on the way and snorkel in nationally protected waters at Ixlache Reef, home to numerous species of fish and abundant coral formations. Swim among parrot fish, angel fish and puffer fish. Keep your eyes open for turtles and dolphins! Look up and marvel at the incredible amount of nesting birds on the island! Welcome to Isla Contoy! Come along with us and discover MUSA and the Manchones Reef located in the Marine Park of Isla Mujeres. Here you will be able to see a large variety of colorful fish including barracudas, lobsters, angel and parrot fish, turtles, and stingrays. Manchones Reef also holds the world-renowned Underwater Museum MUSA, a collection of more than 500 life sized sculptures that were created with the intention to protect the reef and stimulate coral growth due to destruction from global warming.  The museum is also called 'The Silent Evolution' due its eventual transformation in to a completely self sustaining reef ecosystem in the near future. Today the museum provides protection for many species of juvenile marine life and represents a symbol of environmental conscience. • Swim with Whale Sharks Don't let the name frighten you! As the largest fish in the sea, these gentle giants are peaceful creatures who feed on plankton. Jump in and swim with them during whale shark season from June to mid of September. Whale sharks are gentle creatures that live in depths to 250m/800ft below sea level most of the year. In the summer months, they come to our waters to feed on the plankton, microscopic plant matter. The plankton congregate in large concentrations off our shores on the surface of the ocean which has the whale sharks coming back year after year to feed. Sightings start to happen in early June and you will have the opportunity to meet this amazing creature. The trip starts at our dive shop in the morning where after an introduction we depart on approximately an hour long boat ride to the location we expect the whale sharks to be at. Once we get there, two people at the time with one guide are allowed to jump in the water for an up-close encounter with these gentle giants. The group will take turns, so that everyone has more than one chance to partake in this unique experience. Once we return to Isla Mujeres, you will be able to take a dip in the turquoise waters at Playa Norte while the captain prepares fresh fish ceviche for you. Some beers or soda and lunch and you are ready to return to the island! Details:
